Sealer should not be used to trap dirt, active growth, loose sand or moisture. Pavers need to be cleaned, rinsed and allowed to dry according to the sealer requirements. Joints may need fresh sand before the sealer is applied.

A failing sealer can turn white, peel, darken unevenly or create blotchy areas. Pressure alone may not remove it, and aggressive cleaning can damage the paver face. A test area and product history are helpful before stripping or resealing.
If the original sealer is unknown, the surface should be evaluated for compatibility. A new coat over an incompatible or failing layer can make the appearance worse. Spot stains may need specialty treatment.
